2026: The Year of the Mountain Goat
If there was ever a year when climbers have the advantage, this is it.
Over the past two editions of the Oregon Trail Gravel Race, riders with exceptional technical descending skills have risen to the top and dominated the competition. In 2026, however, the race returns to its roots with a counterclockwise route, bringing big mountain climbs back into the spotlight. Expect long ascents, challenging terrain, and a return to the kind of racing where strong climbers can make their mark. Stage 4, in particular, will once again play a pivotal role in determining the overall standings.
For the first time in event history, the Oregon Trail Gravel Race will feature a true mountaintop finish. Stage 2's Dead Mountain climb will put riders' climbing legs to the test, while Stage 4 introduces another first: an Hors Catégorie ascent of the infamous Wolf Mountain. The climb is guaranteed to take your breath away—both from the effort required and the spectacular views waiting at the summit.
To balance the demands of Stages 2 and 4, we've designed a fun, shorter Stage 3 that allows riders to regroup and recover. Stage 5 follows with a smooth, fast, and relatively short course, offering a welcome respite after Stage 4's leg-breaking finale.
With numerous new roads making their Oregon Trail debut, the 2026 edition will showcase a fresh look and feel as the event celebrates its seventh running. Stay tuned as we break down each stage, highlight key course features, and explore the tactics that could shape this year's Oregon Trail Gravel Stage Race.
